Developing Equitation Fundamentals on a Non-Specialized Horse

I decided to enter one equitation class at WEC to challenge myself and continue learning, even though my horse’s primary focus is jumpers. I was excited to apply what I’ve been learning on my own horse in a judged equitation setting. Through IEA, I’ve learned to adjust quickly to different horses in a catch-ride format, and this class at WEC allowed me to apply those same fundamentals in a different environment.
Because my horse’s primary focus is jumpers, I focused on balance and position while making good choices between the jumps and staying consistent throughout the round. I have also been working on riding the correct number of strides between different types of jumps, which helped me plan ahead and adjust my pace earlier.
This class was a good learning experience and part of how I am preparing for future equitation opportunities through IEA and eventual collegiate riding.
